Support for Strong Research Environment
The Swedish Research council has selected Centre for Population Studies as a Strong Research Environment and given financial support. This implies that CPS is one of the 10 centres of excellence chosen from 261 applications to the Swedish research Council. Each of these ten centres will receive 4,4 Million SEK (475 000 Euro) per annum over a period of five years. Besides the importance of the financial support from the Swedish Research Council, CPS also receives the very prestigious label of having an outstanding quality of its research in an international perspective.

Financial support from The Swedish Research Council
DDB has been granted a total of 3, 6 million SEK from The Swedish Research Council, in order to digitalize information from the church registers of five parishes with indigenous populations.
This project implies to register all the information from the church and ministerial registers from two parishes with indigenous populations in the northernmost part of Sweden as well as three parishes from the more southern parishes where the Sami lived. The sources that will be digitalized covers the period 1750-1900.

DDB - A national and international research facility

As a national research resource the Demographic Data Base activities are centred on two main areas: data production and research. Data production includes input, filing and systematizing information from historical parish registers and parish statistics in Sweden. This information is retrievable from relational databases. The Demographic Data Base encourages researchers from both Sweden and abroad in using its material for various research purposes which require large sets of individual and family life course data.

DDB's research activities include method development, service for researchers, provision of guest research posts, seminars, conferences etc.
